Every engagement session I shoot starts with the same question in the client’s inbox: “What should we wear?”<\/em> It’s the right question. After a decade of shooting couples across Texas, I can tell you the outfit matters less than people think \u2014 and more than they expect. Here’s how I coach my couples.<\/p>\n

Start with neutrals and texture<\/h2>\n

Soft, earthy tones \u2014 cream, sage, denim, warm grays, muted teal \u2014 photograph beautifully against Texas light and landscape. They keep the focus on you<\/strong>, not the clothes. Texture does the heavy lifting that loud color can’t: a chunky knit, a linen weave, a flowing dress that catches the breeze. Flat, stiff fabrics read flat in photos.<\/p>\n

Coordinate \u2014 don’t match<\/h2>\n

Matching outfits (think identical white shirts and jeans) look dated the moment the shutter clicks. Instead, build from a shared palette of two or three colors and let each person express it differently. One of you leans darker, the other lighter. You’re a pair, not a uniform.<\/p>\n

Dress for the location and the season<\/h2>\n

A downtown San Antonio shoot wants something a little sharper; a Hill Country field at golden hour wants movement and softness. Tell me where your heart is and I’ll help you tune the wardrobe to it. And in Texas heat, breathable fabrics aren’t vanity \u2014 comfortable people look relaxed, and relaxed is what the camera loves.<\/p>\n

Bring two looks<\/h2>\n

One dressed-up, one casual. It doubles the variety in your gallery and gives the session a natural arc \u2014 and it’s the easiest way to make an hour feel like a real story instead of a single setup.<\/p>\n
